Professional, OSHA-aligned safety and sanitation training for the frontline workforce. Get your team certified with the Certified Janitorial Safety and Sanitation Professional course.

Your employees work with chemicals, pathogens, and hazardous materials every day. Are they trained to do it safely?
Under OSHA's General Duty Clause and standards including 29 CFR 1910.1200 (HazCom), 29 CFR 1910.132 (PPE), and 29 CFR 1910.141 (Sanitation), cleaning and facility service employers are required to provide safety training for their workers.
A comprehensive 1.5-hour online training program. Self-paced, video-based, and accessible 24/7.
An introduction to the certification program covering proper sanitation, professional responsibility, how certification is earned, and the public health impact of safe janitorial practices. Includes an overview of OSHA — who it is, why it exists, and how it protects frontline workers.
Covers the definitions and differences between cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting, examples of cleaning products, soil removal, and why it matters — including critical cross-contamination prevention practices that protect workers, building occupants, and public health. Also covers OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (HazCom), chemical types, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS/SDS), and ventilation and air safety.
Lesson 5 provides an in-depth overview of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in compliance with OSHA standards — covering the correct selection, proper use, and disposal of gloves, eye protection, masks, and protective footwear for varying workplace conditions. Workers learn the real consequences of improper or absent PPE use. Lesson 6 covers Bloodborne Pathogens and Bodily Fluids — how exposure can occur during everyday cleaning tasks, why these hazards are not always visible, and how pathogens can enter the body through cuts, eyes, or mucous membranes. Employers gain confidence that their workforce is trained to recognize, prevent, and respond to exposure risks.
Lesson 7 covers Infection Control and Disease Prevention — teaching workers how germs spread in real-world work environments and how to stop them. Topics include hand hygiene, the dangers of touching the face, and practical strategies to break the chain of infection during daily cleaning tasks. Lesson 8 focuses on Real-World Application and OSHA Alignment — guiding workers through realistic workplace situations where they apply everything they have learned. This lesson builds confidence and competency, ensuring workers and employers alike can demonstrate OSHA-aligned safety practices on the job.
A straightforward 18-question multiple choice exam that covers the key topics from the course. There is no trick questions — just a simple check to make sure the important safety information was understood. A passing score of 80% is required to earn your Certificate of Completion. If you don't pass on the first try, no worries — you can retake it. Once you pass, your certificate is available to download right away.
Certificate of Completion Included
Upon passing the final assessment, participants immediately receive a downloadable Certificate of Completion — 1.5 Contact Hours in Janitorial Safety & Sanitation.

Excel Occupational Safety Institute
With years of experience developing state-approved professional training programs, the curriculum behind Excel OSI was built on one principle: safety standards should be easy to understand and practical enough to use every single day on the job.
Every lesson is grounded in real-world scenarios — not textbook theory — so workers walk away with skills they can apply immediately, whether they are handling chemicals, managing PPE, or responding to a potential exposure.
The mission is straightforward: give frontline workers the knowledge they need to stay safe, and give employers the documentation to prove it.
Everything employers and workers need to know before enrolling.
This course is built using OSHA safety principles and industry best practices, including standards from 29 CFR 1910.1200 (HazCom), 29 CFR 1910.132 (PPE), and 29 CFR 1910.141 (Sanitation). The content is designed to support your OSHA-aligned training obligations. Please note: As stated by OSHA, "OSHA does not endorse commercial products" and "OSHA cannot approve, endorse, or promote the products or services of others, nor does the agency allow the use of its logo to endorse private entities, products or services." (Source: OSHA.gov — Endorsements and the OSHA Logo FAQ). Any course or provider claiming to be "OSHA-approved" or "OSHA-endorsed" is misrepresenting their credentials. Excel Occupational Safety Institute does not make that claim — our course is OSHA-aligned, meaning it is built on OSHA standards, not approved or endorsed by OSHA.
The full course is approximately 1.5 contact hours (about 104 minutes of video content across 8 lessons). It is completely self-paced — students can start, pause, and return at any time. Most students complete it in one sitting.
